Spire Little Aston Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, England is providing urgent cancer care to Walsall patients as part of a collaboration between Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and Spire Healthcare.
Commenced in April this year, the partnership allows the Walsall NHS to cater to Covid-19 patients during the ongoing pandemic.

As part of the agreement, Spire Little Aston Hospital is delivering treatment for patients with different cancers, including breast, skin and gynaecological cancer.
Since the collaboration started, more than 150 NHS patients have received cancer surgery at Spire and NHS clinicians have arrived and performed surgery at the hospital.
Spire Little Aston hospital director Ed Ireland said: “At a time when there is so much focus on tackling the coronavirus, it is vitally important that people who don’t have COVID-19 but are worried about their health, come forward for treatment.
“I’m pleased to say that we at Spire Little Aston are open and specially adapted to provide cancer care for NHS patients in a safe, Covid-free environment.”

By GlobalDataSince mid of last month, the hospital has been working to reduce the increased NHS waiting list due to the pandemic by performing routine orthopaedic operations for Walsall NHS patients.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust chief executive Richard Beeken said: “During this challenging time we have continued to provide care for those with life-threatening illnesses along with patients who have cancer and other urgent conditions.
“This partnership with Spire Little Aston has really helped our efforts to do so and given cancer patients an additional level of reassurance as many have been, understandably, anxious about coming into hospital during the pandemic.”
The collaboration has been possible under a national agreement, which was signed by Spire to provide the NHS with access to its staff, equipment and facilities to help reduce the pressure during the pandemic.
