Stamford Health has announced a partnership with Oula to introduce collaborative, midwife-led maternity and gynaecology care services in Connecticut, US.

The collaboration will merge Oula’s midwife-centred methodology to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum support with Stamford Health’s maternity offerings and “strong” regional influence.

It is set to operate under the name ‘Oula provided by Stamford Health’ and will mark Oula’s foray into the state while introducing Stamford Health’s inaugural midwifery service.

Stamford Health president and CEO Kathleen Silard said: “This relationship with Oula will expand access and allow individual patients and their care partners innovative and high-quality midwifery care options throughout their prenatal and postpartum care journeys.”

The partnership will see the launch of two new maternity clinics within the next year.

This initiative is part of Stamford Health’s strategy to bring specialised care closer to residents of Fairfield County.

Oula co-founder and CEO Adrianne Nickerson said: “We know that approximately 80% of women are interested in care that integrates OB-GYN and midwifery.

“We are thrilled to partner with Stamford Health to launch this collaborative midwifery programme that will increase access to the comprehensive care that people want and deserve.”

The first clinic under this partnership is scheduled to open in Norwalk later this year. It will offer a person-centred approach to care that includes midwives and OB-GYNs.

‘Oula provided by Stamford Health’ will provide gynaecological and pregnancy services, from preconception to postpartum.

The clinics will feature dedicated virtual support, care navigators and access to expert resources, with coverage from most major insurance plans.

Patients choosing this new service will be attended by a team of midwives and OB-GYNs at the clinics and will give birth at Stamford Hospital.

Stamford Hospital patients are expected to benefit from a renovation of the Whittingham Pavilion, which is dedicated to mother-baby services.

The renovation includes the new Cohen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Hackett Family Maternity Unit, Susan Falk Rapoport Women’s Specialty Center, and The Hollander Family Birthing Center.

Last year, Stamford Health and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) entered a partnership to launch a new regional outpatient centre in Westport, Connecticut.
