The University of Miami Health System (UHealth) and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have announced a strategic collaboration to enhance orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care in South Florida, US.
This partnership will see the integration of HSS’s expertise with UHealth’s orthopaedic services at the new UHealth SoLé Mia facility, which is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2025.
UHealth chief operating officer Dipen J. Parekh said: “We are pleased to announce this collaboration even before we open our doors at UHealth SoLé Mia.
“UHealth and HSS are both academic medical centres similarly focused on leading research and delivering excellence to patients in a clinical setting. This alliance will truly make UHealth SoLé Mia an unparalleled medical destination for our local community and beyond. Patients from across the nation already look to UHealth and HSS for world-class care. This collaboration brings the best of both worlds under one roof.”
UHealth’s Department of Orthopaedics, led by orthopaedic surgeon Francis J. Hornicek, is claimed to be the only full-service, multidisciplinary academic orthopaedics programme in South Florida.
It is used in research in fields such as stem cell use, microsurgery for amputations, back pain treatment, and musculoskeletal oncology.
