UnityPoint Health-Trinity Muscatine and the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine have begun developing the new UnityPoint Clinic Mulberry in Muscatine, Iowa, US.

The facility will adopt the medical home model, with providers working in open areas to improve patient monitoring and communication among the care team.

It will initially offer paediatrics, gynaecology, family medicine, surgery and internal medicine.

UnityHealth aims to expand access to healthcare services in Muscatine in future by increasing the clinic’s footprint from 30,000ft² to 42,000ft².

This will enable future expansion, including multi-use space for services such as telehealth, behavioural health and community health.

UnityPoint Clinic Mulberry – Internal Medicine MD Hamid Sagha said: “A patient-centred medical home model is an approach to delivering high-quality, cost-effective primary care using a patient-centred, culturally appropriate and team-based approach.

“These improvements will allow us better adaptation to ever-changing health services needs.”

While the facility is being built, patients will have access to the clinic through the Trinity Muscatine Hospital’s main entrance.

The clinic’s proximity to the hospital will facilitate collaborative care and easy access to additional medical services.

This project is expected to be completed next year and follows a previous $6m upgrade project at the hospital campus.

UnityPoint Health-Trinity Muscatine executive director Rachel Pohl said: “These are visible and needed improvements that make a lasting impact on the quality care we provide in the Muscatine area.

“We’re here to deliver high-quality healthcare locally so our neighbours receive primary care and management of chronic diseases when they need our help.

“We’re committed to the community and enjoy being a healthcare partner for life.”

UnityPoint Health-Trinity Muscatine was recently recognised as a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health and received a five-star CMS Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
