US-based integrated health system University of Virginia (UVA) Health has closed its acquisition of family medicine clinic Piedmont Family Practice.
Completion of the deal comes after both organisations signed a purchase sale agreement in May this year.
The financial details and other terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
UVA Health CEO and University of Virginia health affairs executive vice-president Craig Kent said: “This practice provides an important geographic connection within our primary care network, which will now extend from Culpeper through Warrenton and throughout the contiguous Prince William County.
“Expanding UVA Health’s services across the Commonwealth is a key component of our ten-year strategic plan, and the addition of Piedmont Family Practice to our medical group demonstrates our commitment to this region of Virginia by strengthening and streamlining access to UVA Health subspecialists, opening pathways for patients to take part in clinical trials for new therapies, and creating a more standardised patient experience for those who have other UVA Health doctors in the area.”
Piedmont Family Practice was established in 1993 and serves patients in Warrenton, Virginia.

By GlobalDataAs part of the acquisition, the clinic has begun seeing patients at UVA Health and around 90 of its team members have transitioned to UVA Health’s community medical group.
The deal involved rebranding the practice’s three clinical services, namely The Bariatric & Metabolic Weight Loss Center, Piedmont Family Practice and Piedmont Urgent Care.
Piedmont Family Practice founding member and physician partner Steven von Elten said: “The UVA Health team has been a great partner as we moved toward this milestone.
“This is just the beginning of a journey for the Warrenton clinics as we move toward deeper technology and process integration in the months to come.
“I’m excited about what the people, process and technology investments of UVA Health will bring to our patients as we go forward.”
