Varian, a US-based manufacturer of medical devices and software products, will be deploying its radiotherapy treatment equipment at Rigshospitalet and Herlev Hospital in the greater Copenhagen region.
As per the deal, which is totalling $50m, Varian will be replacing linear accelerators at oncology departments in Rigshospitalet and Herlev Hospital with 15 advanced Varian TrueBeam as well as Halcyon treatment machines and two ViewRay MRIdian MR-Guided Linac systems.
Rigshospitalet and Herlev Hospital owner Lars Dahl Allerup said: “We look forward to this multi-year strategic partnership with Varian which will secure our patients and hospitals with both continuous state-of-the-art technology and the benefits from a strong research collaboration.”
The company further added that its TrueBeam and Halcyon devices feature a multitude of technical innovations, and has the ability to dynamically synchronise imaging, patient positioning, motion management, and treatment delivery.
The two hospitals will also install a full suite of Varian’s treatment planning and oncology information software to manage cancer patient workflow.
Varian Oncology Systems president Kolleen Kennedy said: “This major investment shows the commitment of The Capital Region of Denmark and the Danish government to improving cancer care and will bring the latest in radiotherapy treatments to the country’s cancer patients.
