AdventHealth has announced the retirement of its president and CEO Terry Shaw in July 2025, concluding his 40-year career with the organisation.

Shaw communicated his decision through a video message to the team, expressing his aim to pave the way for new leadership.

AdventHealth Board chair Gary Thurber said: “We will be forever grateful for Terry’s leadership as CEO for the past eight years, including his prior 30+ years of leadership across mission, strategy, operations, clinical and finance.

“His wisdom, guidance and steadfast commitment to our shared vision have been invaluable. Together, we strengthened the foundation of AdventHealth, ensuring that its mission will endure for generations to come.”

During his tenure, Shaw has overseen achievements, such as unifying the organisation under a single brand and establishing Vision 2030, a ten-year strategic plan fostering growth, financial stability, clinical excellence, and sustainability.

He has been instrumental in developing a technology ecosystem to adapt to the changing needs of patients and prioritising consumer-centric care, which now serves nine million patients annually.

Under Shaw's leadership, AdventHealth has also reaffirmed its commitment to its team, nurturing a culture of learning, collaboration, and wholeness.

This approach has expanded the organisation to nearly 100,000 team members.

Shaw said: “Leading this incredible organisation has been the honour of my lifetime. My decision to retire clears the path for the very capable next generation of AdventHealth leaders and I am fully confident in the ability of these leaders to continue our legacy of success.”

The Board of Directors has initiated a comprehensive succession plan, aiming to select an internal candidate as the next CEO by April 2025.

Shaw will maintain an active presence on the AdventHealth Board.
