Apollo Cancer Centre has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven precision oncology centre (POC) in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Said to be the first of its type in the country, the POC has been established to provide the fastest and most effective treatment options available to doctors, patients, and caregivers.

It further marks a significant step towards positioning India as a global medical hub for affordable cancer care.

The POC is designed to deliver accurate diagnoses, cancer risk assessments, real-time insights, and treatment protocols.

This facility will also play a crucial role in identifying patients who are eligible for targeted therapy as part of their diagnosis and treatment planning.

Apollo Cancer Centre medical oncology lead and senior consultant Vijay Agarwal was quoted by Business Standard as saying: “The centre will support new patient identification through auto-alerts to operational teams that identify eligible patients for POCs.

“Alerts to operational teams on deteriorating patient outcomes for intervention and clinical escalation form another key feature.”

In addition, the centre utilises conversational AI to educate patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, frequently asked questions, and how to connect with support groups.

The publication also quoted Apollo Hospitals managing director Suneeta Reddy, who stated: “The launch of AI Precision Oncology Centre marks a significant stride in redefining cancer care. This transformative initiative is a testament to our unwavering commitment to personalised medicine and technological innovation.

“The Precision Oncology Centre reflects our dedication to providing patients with the most advanced, tailored treatments, underscoring Apollo Hospitals' relentless pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery.”

Bengaluru’s Apollo Cancer Centre is a multi-modality cancer care facility that adopts a coordinated multidisciplinary approach and is equipped with the latest technology.

This cancer unit also has modern support from all super-speciality and diagnostic services, including haematology, cytology, histopathology, and pathology, as well as other radiology services such as PET-CT, a cath lab, physiotherapy, and blood bank.
