ApolloMD, a group of over 1,500 physicians, has deployed Fathom's AI-based medical coding technology to improve its revenue cycle and reduce costs.

Fathom's technology automatically codes medical records for ApolloMD, covering over 2.5 million patients in 88 hospitals throughout US.

According to the vendor, ApolloMD has attained “industry-leading” automation rates, saved costs, addressed staffing challenges, and sped up coding processes from days to hours, since implementing this technology.

Fathom leverages advanced AI and natural language processing to analyse provider notes and patient charts, thereby determining the correct reimbursement codes.

This partnership has allowed ApolloMD to adapt to revised guidelines for Emergency Medicine without the need for extensive staff retraining.

Fathom's medical coding automation platform boasts the highest automation rate, offering significant return on investment, according to a press statement.

As ApolloMD continues to grow and serve more patients and facilities, Fathom expects to increase the number of encounters coded, further benefiting ApolloMD's operations.

Fathom CEO Andrew Lockhart said: “At Fathom, we focus on creating healthy communities by automating manual processes intelligently and ensuring the financial well-being of health systems and physician groups.

“We are excited that our innovative and powerful coding technology has enabled ApolloMD to meet the demands of their growth while they continue to deliver exceptional physician and patient experiences.”

Is it time for the healthcare sector to fully embrace the benefits of digitalization and AI?

Primarily due to COVID-19, the healthcare sector has witnessed an acceleration in digital transformation, which has improved efficiencies and enhanced patient outcomes. AI can revolutionize the drug discovery process and significantly reduce the time and cost to get a drug to market, particularly in areas of unmet need. However, using healthcare data for AI development raises data privacy concerns, thereby limiting its adoption.
