Australia's New South Wales (NSW) Government has published artist’s impressions of the Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment project.

The project is being carried out with an A$53m ($35.7m) investment and aims to improve health facilities for patients in the Gunnedah region.

The NSW government said the major construction work related to this project is already underway.

Initial activities such as demolition have been finished to prepare the site for the next phase of construction.

The hospital's main entry and reception have also been renovated to improve accessibility for patients and visitors.

The project's next phases will involve erecting a building for acute services, which will house an expanded emergency department and a modern unit for maternity, birthing and inpatient care.

The artist’s renderings include the inpatient bedrooms, which will feature a designated area for caregivers and large windows offering views of the landscaped courtyards.

The building's interior design is inspired by the Gunnedah landscape, featuring spaces developed in collaboration with staff and the local community.

NSW Legislative Council member Anthony D'Adam said the facility's design was developed following 'extensive' consultation with staff, consumers, carers, community members and the local Aboriginal community.

Construction work related to the Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment project is expected to finish near the end of next year, with hospital services remaining operational throughout the construction phase.

NSW Regional Health Minister Ryan Park said: “As this exciting project takes shape, the community can expect to see an increasing number of builders on site in the coming months.

“The new artist’s impressions showcase a health facility that will provide contemporary facilities for patients and a better workplace for staff.”

The NSW government's Health Infrastructure agency is carrying out the redevelopment project in collaboration with the Hunter New England Local Health District.

Richard Crookes Constructions will provide support for the project's construction work, having been selected last year.
