Manipal Hospital Millers Road in Bengaluru, India, has established an exclusive asthma and allergy clinic, responding to the spike in cases of allergies and asthma.
The clinic was inaugurated on 13 January 2024, with a public forum and focused group discussion featuring Manipal Hospital Millers Road pulmonology consultant Dr Vasunethra Kasargod and pulmonology associate consultant Dr Shivraj Kumar KV.
The new facility operates from 10am to 2pm, between Monday and Friday.
It aims to provide extensive care and expert guidance to people affected by allergies and asthma.
Dr Kasargod said: “The rising prevalence of allergies and asthma, especially in our city and across India, is a matter of serious concern. People of all age groups are impacted by allergies and asthma.
“About 50% of school-going children experience asthmatic symptoms at least once. Manipal Hospital has taken a remarkable initiative by introducing this exclusive clinic for asthma and allergies. The clinic addresses respiratory ailments such as dermatitis and allergic rhinitis in addition to allergies.”
The clinic uses various comprehensive methods for evaluating and treating asthma and allergies, including clinical examinations, blood tests, spirometry, as well as notably, the skin prick test.
According to Dr Kasargod, the skin prick test is a key diagnostic tool that helps in identifying specific allergens, which is crucial for targeted treatment and prevention.
Manipal Hospital Millers Road aims to establish this clinic as a one-stop hub for individuals facing health challenges related to asthma and similar allergies by offering tailored treatment programmes.
Dr Shiva Kumar added: “I urge people with allergies and asthma and those prone to allergies to avail the services at our clinic and embark on a journey of allergy-free life.
“Our goal is to leave no stone unturned in treating your allergy problems and assisting you in living a life free of allergies. In addition to treating the illnesses' acute symptoms, our goal is to address their underlying causes.”
Last August, Manipal Hospitals opened a specialised day-care centre to serve chemotherapy patients in Bengaluru.
