The Bowral & District Hospital in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has opened a new outpatient centre (OC), marking a milestone in its A$55m ($34.22m) stage 2 redevelopment project.

This centre is housed in a renovated 1930s-era building retaining several original features.

New South Wales Health Minister Ryan Park said: “The Bowral & District Hospital redevelopment has been designed to meet the healthcare needs of the community now and into the future in consultation with clinicians, community members, health planners, infrastructure experts, and NSW Health.

“Importantly, as well as the enhanced facilities it has delivered, the redevelopment of the outpatient centre has also retained much of the character and charm that helps make this 130-year-old hospital so special.’’

The new OC at Bowral & District Hospital offers a range of allied health services.

Patients can access occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, speech pathology, podiatry, and dietetics.

In addition, the centre provides medical clinics, such as cardiac diagnostics, general medicine, rehabilitation, and geriatrics.

A gymnasium and an Aboriginal Dreaming Garden are also part of the facility.

The redevelopment's final phase, which includes refurbishing the General Services Building, is underway and set to conclude later this year.

This phase will consolidate hospital support services, such as the Clinical Information Department, Education and Simulation Centre, and administration unit.

Bowral & District Hospital general manager Bradley Warner said: “I am excited our outpatients will have the opportunity to receive care in the OC, a beautiful landmark building on our campus.

“The OC complements our new Clinical Services Building for inpatients care, ensuring the Bowral & District Hospital can provide both subacute and acute care in our purpose-built facilities.”

In February 2025, the NSW Government initiated planning for the A$265m upgrade of the Port Macquarie Base Hospital.

Turner and Townsend have been appointed as project managers, with Altus serving as the cost manager following a competitive tender process.
