Brooks Rehabilitation has partnered with Nemours Children's Health, Wolfson Children's Hospital, and UF Health Jacksonville to enhance care for paediatric patients.

The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of each organisation to provide medical care, education, and training.

Brooks Rehabilitation System chief medical officer Trevor Paris said: "This partnership marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide unparalleled care to the children of our region.

"Through our shared commitment, we are ensuring that every child receives the best medical and rehabilitative care possible."

Brooks Rehabilitation received seven paediatric patients from Wolfson Children's Hospital in 2021.

This number has increased to exceed 40 this year, indicating the increasing demand and success of the partnership.

Nemours Children's Health will station two hospitalists at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital-University Campus to ensure round-the-clock medical coverage.

These hospitalists will handle medical complexities and work towards maintaining patient stability.

In addition, another hospitalist will divide their time between Brooks and Wolfson Children's Hospital, enhancing the continuity of care.

In a related initiative, Brooks Rehabilitation and UF Health Jacksonville will appoint a medicine and rehabilitation physician to manage patient care at Brooks' inpatient and Paediatric Day Programme.

This physician will collaborate with therapy and nursing teams to address recovery challenges, such as muscle tone and spasticity, and facilitate successful transitions back to home environments.

The partnership also enables access to a broader network of Nemours Children's and the University of Florida subspecialists for consultations.

Brooks Rehabilitation nurses will undergo intensive training at Wolfson Children's Hospital, including the Transition from Adults to Paediatrics course, to align with the paediatric care standards set by both Brooks and Wolfson Children's Hospital.

The training will include multiple shadowing phases at Wolfson Children's, starting with respiratory care.
