Brooks Rehabilitation, a non-profit organisation in Jacksonville, Florida, is set to open a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Phoenix campus of the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, US.

This move is expected to bring innovative post-acute rehabilitation services to the region.

The hospital will be situated on eight acres, adjacent to Mayo Clinic's Phoenix hospital, in proximity to the Arizona State University Health Futures Center.

Development of the new hospital is expected to cost approximately $70m.

Construction work related to the hospital is expected to commence in December this year, with its anticipated opening in mid-2026.

The planned 80,000ft² facility will feature a total of 60 private patient rooms, with the potential for expansion to meet increasing service demands.

Upon reaching full maturity, the new hospital is expected to contribute more than 200 jobs to the local economy.

In the previous year, Brooks Rehabilitation admitted over 5,000 patients to its rehabilitation hospitals and provided care for more than 60,000 individuals across its comprehensive rehabilitation care system.  

The organisation's multi-disciplinary team, comprising physicians, therapists, neuropsychologists, nurses, and other rehabilitation specialists, offers extensive training and education.

Expansion into the Arizona region is part of Brooks Rehabilitation's broader growth strategy, which includes increasing bed capacity at its three existing inpatient hospitals in Florida and establishing new outpatient service locations throughout the state.

The development team for the new Arizona hospital includes Kitchell as the general contractor, developer Anchor Health Properties, and Kimley Horn as the civil engineer. Hoefer Welker will serve as the architect.

Furthermore, Brooks Rehabilitation has entered a long-term lease for the property with the Pan-American Financial Assistance Foundation while the funding has been structured and arranged by Veyron.

Mayo Clinic said that it holds a minority interest in this joint venture for the hospital.

Last month, Mayo Clinic announced its collaboration with Abridge and healthcare software company Epic for the development of an integrated generative AI (GenAI) ambient documentation solution to boost workflow for nurses.
