US-based healthcare groups Cape Fear Valley Health and Harnett Health have broken ground on a cancer centre and medical office building at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, North Carolina.
The project will involve building a three-storey, 66,000ft² facility that is expected to be completed in the next 16 months.
The centre will host specialists for various indications, including orthopaedics, ear-nose-throat, surgical, neurology, cardiology and rheumatology departments.
It will feature radiation and medical oncology services to expand the infusion chair capacity at Central Harnett Hospital.
Cape Fear Valley Health has also inaugurated two clinics in Dunn, which will focus on orthopaedics, sports medicine and neurology.
In addition, Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center is continuing its community blood donation programme, which serves patients in Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett and Bladen counties.
The donation programme operates both in physical locations and via mobile blood drives.
Cape Fear Valley Health System offers cardiac care, cancer treatment, surgery, neuroscience, paediatrics, rehabilitation, orthopaedics and other healthcare services.
The health system features a full-service family birth centre and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
It serves more than one million patients a year, covering a seven-county region in south-eastern North Carolina.
Cape Fear Valley Health System comprises various medical facilities, including medical centres, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, behavioural health care and medical offices.
These are all operated as a private, not-for-profit organisation governed by a diverse Board of Trustees.
Earlier this month, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center was recognised as a High Performing Hospital for 2023-2024 by media company US News & World Report in seven areas of care.
These areas were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and stroke.
US News & World Report also recognised Hoke Hospital, another facility owned by Cape Fear Valley Health, as High Performing in COPD.
