Carbon Health has introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled charting in its electronic health records (EHR) across each of its providers and clinics.

It is Carbon Health’s first platform to offer native AI-assisted charting on a large scale.

This new feature is claimed to allow healthcare providers to generate accurate and comprehensive medical notes more efficiently.

The integration of AI technology into Carbon Health's EHR improves the patient-doctor connection by eliminating the need for providers to spend excessive time typing on a screen.

Early data indicates that the AI-powered system significantly improves efficiency, with complete medical charts generated in less than four minutes compared to the average manual charting time of 16 minutes.

The accuracy of AI-generated text is high, with 88% of it being accepted by providers without edits.

Additionally, AI-assisted charting is reported to produce detailed charts that are 2.5 times more comprehensive than manually entered ones.

The process begins with patient consent, after which audio is captured and transcribed using AWS Transcribe Medical.

The transcript is combined with other patient information, and a visit summary is automatically generated within minutes for review and adjustment by the provider.

In a pilot test, a Carbon Health clinic observed a 30% increase in patient volume without adding stress to the team, highlighting the potential benefits of integrating AI into daily workflows in healthcare settings.

“Carbon Health’s hands-free charting feature provides a level of detail and accuracy that we could never achieve with manual notes. I'm never going back.”
