The package includes two years of coverage for chemotherapy, radiation and symptom management from Texas Oncology.

Carrum Health and Texas Oncology have partnered to introduce a value-based care programme for breast cancer care in Texas, US.

The programme will offer a new bundled payment model for breast cancer treatment, with the aim of simplifying access to care and reducing costs for both patients and employers.

The package includes two years of coverage for chemotherapy, radiation and symptom management from Texas Oncology.

Through Carrum Health's Centers of Excellence (COE) network, employer clients can access these services at pre-negotiated bundled prices to ensure members receive quality care without financial and administrative concerns.

Carrum Health founder and CEO Sach Jain said: “About half of cancer care is delivered in community oncology settings, which makes these providers a critical component in expanding access to high-value cancer care to our members.

“As pioneers in value-based payment models and experts in cancer care, Texas Oncology is an ideal collaborator.

“We look forward to working with them to provide top-notch outcomes and remove financial toxicity for breast cancer patients.”

The programme is currently available in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, with plans to expand it to other parts of Texas in the future.

Carrum Health and Texas Oncology also aim to expand the scheme to cover other types of cancer.

Carrum Health is a COE healthcare platform that gives self-funded employers access to a vetted network of providers with bundled pricing, as well as a dedicated care navigator.

The company supports a range of conditions such as cancer, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and bariatric care, with its technology aimed at streamlining COE adoption.

Texas Oncology is an independent private practice and part of The US Oncology Network with more than 530 physicians and 280 locations.

It provides comprehensive cancer care, including proton therapy and surgical services, and contributes to research, with more than 100 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved cancer therapies.

The aging population is a captive market for medical devices

With rising pressure on governments, payers, and manufacturers to reduce healthcare costs, innovative medical technologies have tremendous potential to improve elder care. Advancements in medical device technology have resulted in a significant increase in the number of conditions that can be managed in a home care setting. To capitalize on this strong demand and growth, manufacturers are increasingly producing consumer-targeted equipment.
