ChristianaCare, Atlas Healthcare form JV to develop ambulatory surgery centre network

The ambulatory surgery centre network in Delaware and mid-Atlantic region will foster new opportunities for collaboration within the surgical community.

ChristianaCare, in collaboration with Atlas Healthcare Partners, has formed a joint venture to develop a new ambulatory surgery centre network in Delaware and the mid-Atlantic region, aiming to enhance access to cost-effective, high-quality surgical care.

Ambulatory surgery centres (ASCs) provide outpatient or same-day surgical services, a trend that has gained momentum post-pandemic due to technological advancements.

ChristianaCare chief strategy officer Jennifer Schwartz said: “Ambulatory surgery centers are an increasingly important part of the health care ecosystem, especially as advances in science and technology are enabling more and more procedures to be done safely in an outpatient setting.

“By expanding the availability of ASCs throughout the region we serve, we’re helping to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to get cost efficient, high-quality, safe care, closer to where they live.”

The move to develop more ASCs is backed by consumer studies indicating that patients prefer ASCs over hospitals for their higher satisfaction rates and better patient experiences.

ChristianaCare is not new to the ASC sector, already operating a surgery centre in Newark and holding part ownership of two others in Delaware.

ASCs are valued for their convenience and efficiency, offering patients a cost-efficient alternative to hospital settings. They can specialise in a range of procedures, including orthopedic, gastrointestinal or cardiovascular surgeries. Surgeons also benefit from the flexibility and efficiency of ASCs, which can be optimised for specific types of procedures.

The upcoming network will foster new opportunities for collaboration and innovation within the surgical community.

Atlas Healthcare Partners president and CEO Aric Burke said: “As care continues to shift from inpatient to outpatient settings, this joint venture will enable ChristianaCare to rapidly expand access to high-quality, affordable care across the mid-Atlantic region.

“Our model offers best-in-class, comprehensive ASC development and management and aligns the health system, physicians and ASC team around the mission of delivering exceptional patient experience and outcomes.”

The partnership between ChristianaCare and Atlas Healthcare Partners will be governed by a joint board, featuring representatives from both organisations.

The latest JV news comes after Atlas Healthcare Partners formed a joint venture with US-based MultiCare Health System in July this year.
