US-based health system Cleveland Clinic has begun a $500m fundraising campaign to expand its outpatient services and build a hospital in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The proposed hospital will have around 150 inpatient beds, a medical office building, an emergency department and an ambulatory surgery centre.
It will be built on newly purchased land next to Clear Lake in West Palm Beach, where Cleveland Clinic has provided outpatient care at its City Place centre for more than 15 years.
Cleveland Clinic CEO and president Tom Mihaljevic said: “Cleveland Clinic has served the healthcare needs of Palm Beach County residents for many years and is committed to an expansion plan that will transform care for the community.
“The community’s visionary leaders challenged us to respond to the region’s growing healthcare needs.
“With the support of the community, we will enhance care through a broad range of specialities and greater access.”
The fundraising campaign has so far secured $100m, marking a start towards the half-billion-dollar target required to begin the hospital's construction.
Cleveland Clinic will also lease a 120,000ft² space at 15 CityPlace to develop an outpatient facility, substantially expanding its current capacity.
This centre will offer a range of services, including a concierge medicine programme, chemotherapy and infusion therapy, imaging, endoscopy and outpatient surgery.
Cleveland Clinic Florida Market president Conor Delaney said: “This expansion is special because it is a partnership with the community, which has provided Cleveland Clinic with generous philanthropic support for a very long time.
“The fundraising campaign will enable us to bring to West Palm Beach the full scale of services that residents have been asking us to offer.”
Cleveland Clinic has been active in South Florida for more than 30 years, aiming to provide care focused on safety and patient experience.
