Cleveland Clinic London and Moorfields enter eyecare alliance

The facility will offer outpatient appointments and diagnostics, including MRI, and general practice appointments.

November 21 2023

Cleveland Clinic London and Moorfields Private Eye Hospital have joined forces to provide ophthalmology services at the new Cleveland Clinic Moorgate Outpatient Centre in London, UK.

This alliance, commencing with a rapid access and urgent care clinic, aims to offer same and next-day appointments for patients with urgent eye symptoms.

The new facility, spanning 13,000ft², will offer outpatient appointments and diagnostics, including MRI, and general practice appointments.

Set to open in December 2023, the facility will initially focus on addressing issues such as trauma, sudden vision changes, infections, and various eye discomforts.

Specialist ophthalmology clinics are expected to follow in the next year.

This marks the first collaboration between the two institutions and prioritises patient-centred care, multidisciplinary approaches, and evidence-based treatments.

The financial surplus generated by Moorfields Private in this partnership will be reinvested into Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Cleveland Clinic London chief of operations Lindsey Condron said: “Cleveland Clinic London is delighted to be partnering with such a highly regarded ophthalmology provider in Moorfields.

“This partnership will enable our patients to have seamless access to world-class care in our state-of-the-art outpatient centre located in the heart of the City of London.”

This initiative follows the openings of the Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre in September 2021 and the 184-bed Cleveland Clinic London Hospital at 33 Grosvenor Place in March 2022.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Cleveland Clinic integrates clinical care, hospital services, research, and education.

With over 72,500 global employees, including 5,050 physicians and researchers, and 17,800 nurses across 140 specialities, Cleveland Clinic operates a 6,500-bed health system.

The system includes a main campus, 23 hospitals, and more than 275 outpatient facilities in various locations, including Ohio, Florida and Nevada in the US, as well as Canada, the UAE, and England.

Is it time for the healthcare sector to fully embrace the benefits of digitalization and AI?

Only a handful of approved therapeutic drugs are currently available for the treatment of ARF, all belonging to the solute carrier family 12 member 1 inhibitor. The clinical trial space in ARF consists of almost an equal mix of commercial as well as academic sponsors, with Iran and the US emerging as the key countries for conducting Phase III trials. While the current marketed drug space for ARF has only a handful of treatment options, currently available mid-to-late-stage pipeline drugs are likely to pave the way for a new treatment approach in the future.
