Constanța City Hall, the local administration of Constanța, a city in Dobruja, Romania, has announced the opening of a new modular hospital in the region.
The new hospital has been developed with an investment of approximately €10m ($10.79m), Constanța City Hall said in a Facebook post on 19 February.
It has been opened to enhance the medical infrastructure of the city's Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases.
The facility, which features 52 beds, is equipped with a range of medical devices and equipment to improve the region's healthcare capabilities.
In addition, the hospital also has a pharmacy and a laboratory.
It is said to be the first facility within the Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases to offer imaging services, including a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and computer tomography.
This marks a first for the facility, expanding its diagnostic capabilities.
The new hospital, according to Constanța City Hall, can be converted into a field hospital, if necessary.
It is primarily designed to meet all the requirements for managing and treating infectious diseases that pose a high risk of transmission.
Constanța Mayor Vergil Chițac said: “This is an important moment for Constanța. Around 40 years have passed since a hospital was last built in the city, which is why the opening of the Modular Hospital is such a great reason for pride.”
Constanța City Hall has also disclosed its plans to commence the broader modernisation and expansion of the existing Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases building.
With upgrade works on the old building expected to start later this year, the project will see an investment of approximately 28m lei ($6.07m), out of which nearly 12m lei is being allocated for the hospital building’s consolidation.
A Romania Insider report cited a Constanța City Hall announcement as stating: “Moreover, the first steps have already been taken to create an administrative pavilion in the hospital courtyard, because the hospital's infrastructure requires expansion. The necessary documents have been obtained so that by the end of the year, the work could be completed.”
