Construction has begun on the new A$30m ($19.93m) Wentworth Health Service to provide improved health facilities to the Wentworth community in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

The new hospital, to replace the 80-year-old existing facility, will be built on the same site and elevated above flood levees.

This development includes an inpatient unit with a 19-bed capacity, primary ambulatory care, an urgent care centre, a family and dining room, a palliative care suite, a gym, and outdoor spaces.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said: “The Wentworth community will really benefit from a new health facility, which will deliver enhanced health services in a culturally welcoming and patient-focused environment.”

The redevelopment is expected to support around 50 direct jobs during the construction phase, benefiting the local economy. Several indirect jobs are also anticipated to be created over the project's life.

Completion of the project is expected in 2025. Existing health services will operate throughout the construction period and measures will be taken to minimise disruptions.

HPAC is the main works contractor for the project.

NSW Health Infrastructure executive director rural and regional Amanda Bock said: “The new Wentworth Health Service will be equipped with the latest, fit-for-purpose facilities, including dedicated staff areas so they can continue to provide high-quality care to the Wentworth community.”

Member for Murray Helen Dalton said: “The Wentworth community deserves access to high-quality health services, and I am very pleased this development is underway.”

Recently, a cultural ceremony and land cleansing were conducted at the site.
