Construction has commenced on the new Weyburn General Hospital in Weyburn, Canada, with an aim to provide centralised services to residents in Weyburn and nearby areas.

This project involves the replacement of the existing hospital with a new 35-bed facility covering around 9,730ft².

The new hospital will house an Emergency Medical Services garage and a heliport.

In addition, 25 acute care beds along with a ten-bed mental health inpatient unit from Tatagwa View nursing home in Weyburn will be moved to the new hospital.

Wright Construction Western has been tasked with overseeing the construction of the new facility.

After the construction is finished, the current Weyburn General Hospital will be demolished.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority expects the construction work to conclude by December 2025.

Wright Construction chief operating officer Chris Doka said: "We have reached an important milestone in the project and are very excited to begin work on the Weyburn General Hospital.

"Design and construction are progressing well, and we are looking forward to a productive summer on the site."

Saskatchewan Health Authority vice-president and quality, safety and chief information officer Michelle Mula stated: “This very important milestone means that the citizens of Weyburn and the surrounding area are one step closer to the opening of a new hospital that is designed to meet the needs of the community for decades to come.

"The new Weyburn Hospital will bring more services under one roof, which means better access for patients."
