Dayton Children’s Hospital has entered a partnership with non-profit organisation Sunlight Village and CityWide Development Corporation to establish a new centre in West Dayton, US.

The new facility will focus on serving the children in West Dayton for addressing their mental, social, physical and nutritional health requirements.

Under the project, a paediatric health care clinic and a 'Healthy Family Market' will come up in the new centre.

This paediatric health care clinic will be run by Dayton Children’s to serve the local children’s needs.

The services provided in the clinic will include on-demand care for acute ailments, laboratory works, imaging, prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, immunisation clinics, and support for behavioural health and asthma.

The parties estimate the project to cost nearly $8m and create around 20 jobs in the area.

Sunlight Village and Dayton Children’s plan to break ground on the new centre next year, with the construction works expected to last for nearly 12 to 15 months.

Dayton Children’s president and CEO Debbie Feldman said: “A facility in West Dayton allows us to address the key concerns that families expressed in our latest community health needs assessment, which include access to care, community conditions, care of chronic disease, mental health and the health of mom and baby.”

To support maternal and infant health in the West Dayton neighbourhood, the Sunlight Village-led family market will offer items such as infant formula, baby cereal, fresh vegetables, fruits and other nutritious food staples.

Sunlight Village founder and CEO Robbie Brandon said: “The Healthy Family Market is based on a medical model started in California to address the health of moms and babies, so we know it works.

“We have adapted it to fit the circumstances of our community and chosen a location that we feel will be most beneficial for convenient access. We are confident it will improve health outcomes for some of the most vulnerable families in Dayton.”
