Elekta secures $40m radiation tech contract from India’s KIMS

The order includes a suite of advanced hardware and software, including Elekta One suite of oncology software solutions.

Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hyderabad, India, has placed an order worth $40m with Elekta, a precision radiation therapy solutions provider.

The order includes a comprehensive suite of advanced hardware and software.

These include Elekta Unity MR-Linacs, Esprit (Elekta’s latest Leksell Gamma Knife) systems, Elekta One suite of oncology software solutions, Versa HD linear accelerators, and Flexitron brachytherapy afterloaders.

KIMS Hospitals chairman and managing director Dr Bhaskar Rao Bollineni said: “We are delighted to partner with Elekta to bring these cutting-edge technologies to our patients.

“These devices and software will enable us to provide more personalised and precise treatments for various types of cancers while minimising side effects and improving quality of life.

“We are committed to offering the best possible care to our patients and investing in innovation that can make a difference.”

This contract is expected to benefit thousands of cancer patients in India, where around 1.3 million people were diagnosed with the disease in 2020.

Founded in 2000, KIMS Hyderabad runs 12 facilities in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

The equipment will be deployed in a phased manner over three years across the hospital chain's facilities, with the first deployment planned in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024.
