US-based hospital network Encompass Health has opened a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Johnston, Rhode Island.

Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Johnston aims to provide intensive rehabilitative services for patients with a range of debilitating conditions, including strokes and spinal cord injuries.

The hospital will offer patients a minimum of three hours of intensive therapy for five days each week, as well as by frequent physician visits and round-the-clock nursing care to ensure a comprehensive recovery process.

It features private patient rooms and a therapy gym that incorporates advanced rehabilitation technologies, in addition to an in-house dialysis suite, an 'activities of daily living' suite, an in-house pharmacy and a dayroom area for patients.

An interdisciplinary team consisting of specialised therapists, physicians and nurses will deliver physical, occupational and speech therapies at the hospital.

The team's collaborative approach aims to restore patients' functional abilities and enhance their quality of life once they have been discharged from the hospital.

Encompass Health group president Pat Tuer said: “Our goal is to provide a place where families and patients can access quality care; a place where patients discover hope and regain the confidence to join their community; and most importantly, a place where patients regain the independence that results in a better quality of life.

“We are honoured to say that currently one in three patients receiving inpatient rehabilitation care in the country receives it through an Encompass Health hospital, and we’re excited to serve Rhode Island patients close to home in the Johnston community.”

Encompass Health's portfolio includes 164 hospitals across 38 states and Puerto Rico.

The company has been listed as one of Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies and Becker’s Hospital Review’s 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare.

Earlier this year, it shared preliminary plans to open an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
