The Ensign Group has taken over the operation of two skilled nursing facilities in South Carolina, US, with effect from 1 September 2023.

The acquired facilities include Ashley River Healthcare, which is a 125-bed nursing facility in Charleston, and a 135-bed skilled Reserve Healthcare and Rehabilitation site in Hanahan.

According to Ensign, the deals will be subject to a long-term and triple net lease.

With the addition of Ashley River Healthcare and Reserve Healthcare and Rehabilitation facilities, Ensign has further grown its portfolio to nearly 295 healthcare operations, located across 13 states.

Of these 295 operations, 26 are senior living operations. The total number of real estate assets under Ensign subsidiaries is now 112.

The Ensign Group, the parent of the Ensign collection of companies, mainly invests in and provides skilled physical, occupational, and speech therapies, as well as nursing and senior living services and other rehabilitative and healthcare services.

Commenting on the latest acquisitions, Ensign CEO Barry Port said: “We are very excited for our continued growth in South Carolina.

“These buildings present a great geographical and strategic fit within this particular market.”

Port added that Ensign is now looking for more opportunities to acquire real estate and lease both successful and underperforming skilled nursing, senior living, and healthcare businesses across the US.
