The Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, US, has hosted a ribbon-cutting event for its new satellite location comprising 48 beds.

This expands the hospital’s capacity to 144 beds across two sites, marking the first key capacity expansion since its launch in 2018.

Aimed at improving access to acute behavioural healthcare for adults and older adults in the region, the new beds will be available starting this month.

The hospital, which is the result of a partnership between Erlanger and Acadia Healthcare, caters to people staying in southeastern Tennessee and nearby areas.

It offers a comprehensive range of personalised services for patients aged 12 years and above, addressing a variety of behavioural health diagnoses.

Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital CEO Robin Weagley said: “We are very pleased to expand our facility to help meet the growing behavioural health needs of our area residents.

“With the expansion of a new satellite location and an increase in our bed capacity to 144 beds, we will be able to extend healing more broadly throughout our communities. I want to thank the entire hospital staff and our partners for their commitment and hard work.”

Erlanger president and CEO Jim Coleman said: “Since Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital opened in 2018, it has provided life-changing services to thousands of residents in our community.

“With the expansion of a new satellite location and an increase in our bed capacity to 144 beds, we will be able to extend healing more broadly throughout our communities. I want to thank the entire hospital staff and our partners for their commitment and hard work.”

Why are healthcare companies hesitant to invest in the metaverse?

Although metaverse technologies could reinvent healthcare approaches and bring new experiences to healthcare providers and patients, adoption is still at an early stage. There are currently few use cases in the healthcare industry. The metaverse needs to overcome major challenges for healthcare, including regulation and data privacy concerns.

Healthcare industry continues to be highly vulnerable to cyberattacks

Cybersecurity is a growing market in the medical devices sector for several reasons. Medical devices often collect and contain vulnerable data, such as patient medical information. Legacy medical devices are a cause for concern because they likely were not designed with cyberattacks in mind. With the adoption of EHR systems, telemedicine measures, mobile health apps, and other connected devices, there is increased vulnerability to cyberattacks.
