Construction of Eurobodalla Regional Hospital begins in NSW

The hospital will offer paediatric and maternity services, and a simulation laboratory, among others.

Construction has commenced on the A$330m Eurobodalla Regional Hospital in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

The new hospital is poised to significantly improve medical services in the region, with a larger emergency department than the current combined services of the state’s Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals.

It will feature an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/Close Observation Unit (COU), the first of its kind in the Eurobodalla region.

The hospital will also include surgical and operating theatres, a day stay surgical unit, and expanded medical imaging services, including a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) service.

Additionally, it will offer ambulatory care, paediatric and maternity services, a special care nursery, and mental health beds for short-term admissions.

With increased access to chemotherapy treatments and renal dialysis as well as enhanced education and training facilities including a simulation laboratory, the hospital looks to transform care delivery in the region.

Last month, Multiplex Constructions received the main works contract for the project after the approval of the State Significant Development Application in May.

Expected to be completed by 2027, Eurobodalla Regional Hospital will also provide opportunities for community members and local businesses to engage with the project. An employment information session with Multiplex is scheduled later this month to discuss potential involvement.

NSW Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park commented on the development, stating: "We’re delivering on our promise to provide better healthcare for the people of Eurobodalla, and we’ll ensure these services support the growing communities so that patients can be treated closer to home and, in many instances, won’t have to travel for critical care.

"I’ve said many times, your postcode shouldn’t define the healthcare you receive, and this new hospital will provide the community with access to a range of expanded and enhanced health services including the Eurobodalla Shire’s first intensive care and paediatric unit as well as a significantly larger emergency department and the first public MRI machine for the Eurobodalla community."
