Parkview Kosciusko Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana, US, has officially opened its doors to patients after the completion of expansion work.
This facility, which originally operated as an outpatient centre, has now been transformed into a full-service hospital, providing both inpatient and outpatient care.
The original Parkview Warsaw outpatient centre, which opened in 2016, included a freestanding emergency room within an 86,000ft² space.
Following the 88,000ft² expansion, the hospital now spans a total of 174,000ft².
This expansion was designed in response to community feedback and aims to accommodate increased demand for healthcare services.
Parkview Kosciusko Hospital’s new facilities include several care spaces that have been designed for adaptability and future growth.
Clinical units will be introduced gradually in phases, allowing the hospital to scale up services.
The hospital’s third floor houses an inpatient unit with the capacity for up to 28 patients.
However, it is initially opening with 12 beds, with plans to increase this number based on patient volume and staffing.
The second floor is equipped with two operating rooms and two procedure rooms along with pre- and post-surgical care areas.
It also has temporary shell space, reserved for future conversion into additional operating or procedure rooms as needed.
The hospital's expansion also has an oncology clinic, part of the Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute (PFCI), featuring seven exam rooms and nine infusion bays of which seven bays provide a view of the new Healing Garden courtyard.
Furthermore, the Healing Garden is designed to provide a space for patients, visitors, and staff, complete with seating for relaxation and dining.
At the basement level, hospital has a café, administrative offices, classrooms, and various outpatient services.
The expanded Parkview Kosciusko Hospital is expected to generate a further clinical and non-clinical 150 jobs.
Parkview Health physician executive, surgery service line Dr Michael Grabowski said: “With both inpatient and outpatient capabilities, Parkview Kosciusko Hospital will be able to handle majority of surgical needs.
“More importantly, patients will be closer to home. Being closer to your loved ones and your care team helps to improve your overall experience and outcomes.”
