Flatiron Health partners with UK’s LTHT to advance cancer research

The partnership with LTHT will enable Flatiron UK to transform unorganised cancer information into anonymised data.

Healthcare technology firm Flatiron Health, which focuses on enhancing cancer care, has partnered with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) in the UK.

Flatiron leverages real-world data (RWD) to support research.

The latest collaboration is said to mark a significant milestone in Flatiron's expansion as a global leader in oncology RWD.

By translating cancer patients' experiences into research-ready datasets, Flatiron aims to advance research and enhance the care and treatment of patients worldwide.

Flatiron CEO Carolyn Starrett said: “So, alongside partners, regulators, and patient advocates, and with scalable and secure methods, Flatiron has developed a unique offering in the UK to translate data from routine clinical care into research-ready datasets.

“We are excited to work with one of the most innovative and patient-centric medical institutions in the UK to add more patient experiences into the evidence that supports treatment, development, and regulatory decisions.”

The company specialises in curating high-quality, de-identified patient information from routine care, which fills the gap left by clinical trials in capturing a broader range of patient outcomes.

The partnership with LTHT will enable Flatiron UK to transform unorganised cancer information into anonymised data for researchers to help facilitate cancer treatment and care.

This announcement follows Flatiron's previous partnership with Japan's National Cancer Center Hospital East and its expanding international presence in Japan, Germany, and the UK.

The company's goal is to generate high-quality oncology datasets, through collaborations with hospitals, health networks, and biopharmaceutical companies, to expedite cancer research.

Flatiron head of corporate development senior vice-president Nathan Hubbard said: “Through this groundbreaking new agreement with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which has also been approved by the NHS Health Research Authority, the NHS’ ethics body, we know we’ll be able to illustrate the realisation of our mission to bring Flatiron’s RWD expertise into partnerships with hospitals and health networks in Europe and beyond.”
