FluidAI Medical has collaborated with Medtronic Canada ULC, part of US medical device firm Medtronic, for remotely monitoring patients, utilising artificial intelligence (AI).
This strategic alliance seeks to further DIGITAL's Continuous Connected Patient Care (CCPC) Project in Canada, which aims to offer care at home for patients released from hospital, using predictive analytics, AI, and home monitoring technology that integrates with hospitals’ medical systems.
The aim is to prevent prolonged hospital stays for stabilised patients with severe complications, thereby saving costs for patients and time for healthcare staff. This will also make more beds available to new patients.
Medtronic spearheads the CCPC project with a consortium of Canadian healthcare and technology players, each of whom will be responsible for providing a distinct element for development of the integrated monitoring technology.
In addition to FluidAI, the consortium comprises Providence Health Care’s St. Paul’s Hospital, Providence Health Care Ventures, Simon Fraser University, Bridge Health Solutions, StarFish Medical, Cloud DX, and Excelar Technologies.
The project is being backed by a $5.2m co-investment from DIGITAL, the Global Innovation Cluster for digital technologies in Canada.
FluidAI is the developer of the Stream Platform that helps spot postoperative leaks.
The company will improve its existing platform to facilitate at-home patient use, while expanding functionality to work with Medtronic's clinical-grade medical device. It will also build a cloud platform to enable use of its platform in a remote environment and integrate with the offerings of the consortium partners.
