The Government of India has laid the foundation stone of the Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) and Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital in Assam.

The CRIYN and Yoga & Naturopathy hospital will be located in Dihing Khamtighat in Assam’s Dibrugarh district in India.

It is said to be the first such institute and hospital to come up in Northeast India.

Spanning nearly 15 acres, the facility will entail an investment of around Rs1bn ($12m) and offer a blend of traditional practices with modern technology.

It aims to promote quality in education, preventive healthcare, and research within the realms of yoga and naturopathy.

CRIYN is designed to be a hub for fundamental research, scientific validation of traditional medicine, and international collaboration in the field.

It will also act as an incubator for startups in the yoga and wellness sector, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

The 100-bed Yoga & Naturopathy hospital is expected to offer comprehensive services, including inpatient, outpatient, and daycare.

The treatments at this hospital will range from naturopathy diet and nutrition to various therapies such as yoga, massage and manipulative therapies, acupuncture, acupressure, magneto therapy, chromotherapy, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

It is further envisioned to be a pivotal facility for managing a spectrum of conditions, including arthritis, autoimmune diseases, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, migraines, neurodegenerative diseases and respiratory issues.

The latest milestone was marked by an official foundation stone laying ceremony presided over by Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing the ceremony, Sonowal said: “The institution will also offer clinical training facilities to train Yoga and Naturopathy experts for capacity-building programmes in areas of cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes rehabilitation, autoimmune diseases and NCD risk reduction.

“With research and development in protocols of Yoga and Naturopathy, CRIYN will develop evidence-based protocols for the management of NCDs that can be integrated with conventional care, reinforcing the Integrated Medicine approach of patient care.

"The hospital will provide inpatient services with Yoga and naturopathy protocols to heal and enrich the quality of lives.”
