US-based health network Hackensack Meridian Health has partnered with Medically Home to introduce the ‘Hospital from Home’ programme, providing patients with the same level of care they would receive in a hospital in an at-home setting.
This offering was piloted in 2022 at the JFK University Medical Center and has since been extended to include Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The programme represents a rapidly expanding care model that combines virtual and in-person healthcare services.
Patients are monitored round the clock through a virtual command centre led by physicians, complemented by visits from nurses.
The offering provides a comprehensive range of services such as infusions, IV antibiotics, managing medications, laboratory services, various therapies, and imaging services, delivered at the patient's residence.
Since its inception in late April this year, the programme treated nearly 100 patients.
According to clinical studies, hospital care at home demonstrated to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction, and resulted in cost savings, while also lowering mortality and readmission rates.
Hackensack Meridian Health CEO Robert Garrett said: “At Hackensack Meridian Health, we are committed to providing high-quality, hospital-level care where patients are most comfortable; for some, this is in their own home.
“This innovative partnership will enable us to continue making care more convenient and accessible to the patients and communities we serve.”
Medically Home will work alongside Hackensack Meridian Health, supplying command centre operations, logistical support, and the vital technology to facilitate this level of in-home care.
Hackensack Meridian Health Population Health president Patrick Young said: “At Hackensack Meridian Health we are proud to deliver the next generation of care.
“This is a whole new healthcare experience for patients and their caregivers that will deliver better clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.”
