Manipal Hospitals in Old Airport Road, Bengaluru has launched a specialised day-care centre for chemotherapy treatment.
The centre enables patients to receive chemotherapy and return home on the same day, with options to sit on private couches or in a shared lounge area instead of hospital beds.
It can carry out 50-55 chemotherapy sessions at a time and is said to be equipped with the latest facilities.
Medical oncology consultant Dr Poonam Patil said: “The day-care centre is designed and structured based on the convenience of the doctors, enhancing the patient experience and lesser hospital stays.
“The centre will offer all essential services, including chemotherapy, all targeted immunotherapies and all comprehensive cancer care.”
Located close to the outpatient department, it minimises patient movement within the hospital, reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
The centre includes a dedicated room for safely mixing cytotoxic drugs.
Supported by doctors and a trained oncology care team of nurses, this initiative is expected to bring advanced cancer care to the community.
Manipal Hospital medical oncology HOD and consultant Dr Amit Rauthan said: “We strive to make the healthcare journey of patients more accessible and seamless, providing them with the care they need in a comfortable and safe environment.
“Our day-care centre is equipped with cutting-edge facilities for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and the dedicated mixing room ensures the highest standards of safety and infection control.”
