The Infosys Foundation is offering a grant of Rs550m ($6.65m) to build a new maternity and childcare hospital in Kunigal Taluk, in the Tumakuru district of Karnataka, India.

It will work with the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Karnataka, to enable the project.

According to the press statement, the new 100-bed facility will offer ante and post-natal, neonatal, and paediatric services. Other amenities include surgical, diagnostic, and obstetrics emergency management services.

Once opened, the facility is expected to help the rural population in the area gain access to ‘affordable’ healthcare and will serve around 30,000 mothers and children annually.

Karnataka Bengaluru Rural member of parliament Sri DK Suresh said: “We deeply appreciate the support from Infosys Foundation for its contribution towards strengthening Karnataka’s healthcare infrastructure.

“This initiative is a step towards ensuring the easy accessibility of affordable and quality healthcare for mothers and children, and future generations of Kunigal Taluk.”

The new facility complements the foundation's earlier initiatives, including the 100-bed maternity and child care hospital in Kanakapura Taluk, Ramanagara district in Karnataka, and the 350-bed block at Bengaluru's Jayadeva Hospital.

Infosys Foundation trustee Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar said: “Through our valued engagement with the Government of Karnataka, we have been able to make high-quality, holistic care available to mothers and children in various districts of the state.

“We are grateful to be able to join the government today at this foundation stone-laying ceremony.”
