New Izmir Bayraklı City Hospital campus opens in Turkey  

Spanning across 628,000m², the hospital campus features operating rooms, ICUs, indoor and outdoor car parks and other units.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has inaugurated a new hospital complex in the western province of Izmir, marking a significant development for the country’s healthcare infrastructure.  

The opening ceremony of the hospital was marked by the presence of senior officials, including Health Minister Fahrettin Koca and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, alongside healthcare workers.  

During this event, Erdoğan also inaugurated 4km-long link roads and an intersection designed to offer fast, safe, and comfortable access to the hospital. 

Speaking during the event, Erdoğan said: “We have provided all of our cities with the most modern health services with their buildings, equipment, equipment and ambulances. With the city hospitals that have started operating in many places such as Izmir, we have brought health services to a level above world standards.” 

The new Izmir Bayraklı City Hospital, which spans across an area of 628,000m², includes comprehensive facilities such as intensive care units (ICU), operating rooms, both indoor and outdoor car parks and other units. 

The new hospital campus is designed to cater to a wide range of medical needs and has a capacity of 2,060 beds. 

Out of the total number of beds, the campus has a 715-bed General Hospital, a 424-bed Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, a 380-bed Cardiovascular Surgery Hospital, a 141-bed Oncology Hospital, a 300-bed Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as a 100-bed High Security Forensic Psychiatry Hospital.  

Erdoğan highlighted that the new hospital would strengthen the human resources in the area by providing employment to around 1.5 million health care workers, including 310,000 doctors. 

In a tweet, Koca said: “It [hospital] employs 5,608 people, including 1,432 physicians and assistant physicians and 1,226 nurses; Izmir City Hospital, which is a hospital complex with its Internal Medicine Clinics, Surgery and Oncology Hospital, Cardiovascular and Chest Diseases Hospital, Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital, High Secure Forensic Psychiatry Hospital. It was put into service by our President. May it be beneficial to Izmir and our entire country.”
