The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the UK has entered a new partnership with Newton’s Tree, a health technology company and member of the NVIDIA Inception Program, for an AI platform.

As part of this collaboration, the NHS Trust will implement Newton’s Tree’s vendor-neutral AI solution throughout all Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

The deployment of this enterprise AI platform will enable the NHS Trust to acquire, assess, integrate, as well as oversee a range of third-party AI algorithms and products within standard routine care pathways.

Leeds Teaching Hospital chief scientific officer David Brettle said: “Healthcare faces huge challenges in the post-Covid world, and Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to adopting transformative technologies to improve patient care.

“This collaboration has the potential to significantly enhance our diagnostic and treatment capabilities, ensuring high-quality care for our patients in a safe way.”

Newton’s Tree’s enterprise AI vendor-neutral platform is designed on open standards, which helps in facilitating the deployment as well as monitoring of AI software across several medical specialities, which also includes pre-market products.

According to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the use of AI can transform patient care and enhance operational efficiency, ranging from aiding in early cancer detection to optimising patient prioritisation and reducing waiting lists.

The latest collaboration further aims to establish a standard for integrating AI solutions in healthcare, which will help in showcasing a scalable model that can also be adopted by other NHS Trusts.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Radiology consultant, Clinical Radiology professor, and local project lead Andrew Scarsbrook said: “Integrating the Newton’s Tree AI platform allows us to rapidly scale our ability to evaluate and implement AI applications.

“This will ensure that we are able to enhance patient outcomes whilst ensuring these technologies are safe and effective. We are looking forward to developing prospective monitoring capabilities with Newton’s Tree in the coming months.”
