Loma Linda University (LLU) Health has partnered with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, to build and operate an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Loma Linda, California, US.

The free-standing 80-bed facility will aim to address the increasing need for specialised rehabilitation services in the region.

It will offer therapy for various areas, including occupational, physical and speech, as well as intensive nursing services for adults recovering from debilitating illnesses or injuries, neurological diseases, strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries and other serious conditions.

The facility will almost double the LLU health system's existing inpatient rehabilitation care capacity.

All of LLU Health's existing inpatient rehabilitation units will be transitioned to the new facility once it is operational.

The facility's development is expected to begin next year subject to regulatory approvals, with its opening due in 2027.

Once operational, it will become part of Lifepoint Rehabilitation's network, which currently includes more than 40 inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the US.

LLU Health Hospitals CEO Trevor Wright said: “Today marks an important milestone in our commitment to providing exceptional care and support to our community.

“Through our partnership with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, we're not only establishing a facility but also enhancing rehabilitation services to ensure every individual receives the specialised care they need.”

Through their partnership, LLU Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation aim to invest in the latest technology and facilities, including multidisciplinary therapy gymnasiums and adaptive units.

Lifepoint Rehabilitation president Russ Bailey said: “We are pleased to partner with Loma Linda University Health as we expand access to high-quality rehabilitation care in the Inland Empire.

“We know they share our commitment to a patient-centred care model and that together, we can meet the growing need for rehabilitation care in the San Bernardino and Riverside counties and advance our mission of making communities healthier.”
