Manipal Hospitals, a multi-speciality hospital chain based in Bengaluru, India, has launched a specialised day-care centre for chemotherapy patients to create a comfortable and safe set-up.

With advanced facilities, the new day-care centre will provide a relaxed treatment setting, and direct access to experienced doctors to patients.

Strategically located close to the outpatient department (OPD), the centre can perform between 50 and 55 chemotherapies simultaneously.

The centre features a dedicated cytotoxic drug mixing room to avoid spillages and contamination during the preparation of the drugs for chemotherapy treatment.

Manipal Hospital at Old Airport Road, medical oncology HOD and consultant Dr Amit Rauthan said: "Our day-care centre is equipped with cutting-edge facilities for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and the dedicated mixing room ensures the highest standards of safety and infection control.”

The comprehensive and specialised day-care chemotherapy centre enables patients to return home on the same day of their infusion.

It also offers patients the option to be seated on a private couch comfortably, or in a shared lounge area, eliminating the use of a hospital bed for their treatment.

The centre comes with a well stock of IV set with covering (black colour), Bard port and Power Port for Chemoport and cooling caps to cut down the hair fall during the chemotherapy infusions.

Manipal Hospitals Medical Oncology consultant Dr Poonam Patil said: "The day-care centre is designed and structured based on the convenience of the doctors, enhancing the patient experience and lesser hospital stays. The centre will offer all essential services, including chemotherapy, all targeted immunotherapies and all comprehensive cancer care."

The hospital carries out 360-370 chemotherapies every week and covers 870 – 900 each month, depending on the urgency of the treatment.
