Mayo Clinic in the US has signed an agreement to purchase global healthcare company Fresenius Kabi’s Ivenix Infusion System.

As per the terms of the multiyear supply and service agreement, Mayo Clinic is expected to purchase 10,000 Ivenix large-volume infusion pumps for its clinics and hospitals, located in Arizona, Minnesota, and Florida.

Hospitals and other sites of care use infusion pumps to deliver medications and fluids to patients.

The Ivenix Infusion System from Fresenius Kabi is a smart pump with advanced technology, and features a smartphone-like touchscreen, along with a pumping mechanism.

The pump has been designed to interface with the information systems and electronic medical records of hospitals.

Fresenius Kabi MedTech president Dr Christian Hauer said: “Technology is transforming patient care and, at Fresenius Kabi, our focus is on scaling advanced technologies and essential medicines so they can benefit more patients in more places.

“We are honoured to collaborate with, and to serve, the care teams at Mayo.”

The patient-centred design of the pump enables quick bedside set-up, with a reduced risk of administrative and programming errors.

Due to the advanced pump technology, infusions can be delivered under all operating conditions, with less variability.

For Fresenius Kabi, it is claimed to be the largest contract signed to date for Ivenix pumps.

Fresenius Kabi US Infusion Therapy and Nutrition senior vice-president Pete Allen said: “For our customers, patients, and partners, Fresenius Kabi is committed to enhancing the intelligence and reliability of infusion systems.

“This agreement represents the culmination of a tremendous amount of work by our engineering and commercialisation teams, and we are committed to delivering an outstanding experience for Mayo and its care teams.”

In June this year, Mayo Clinic announced plans for expanding its Rochester campus, to modernise and streamline the facility.
