Healthcare company Meditech has launched a new health information exchange network, named Traverse Exchange, to enhance interoperability among US healthcare providers.
The network allows Meditech customers to share patient data across different electronic health record (EHR) systems and networks, aligning with the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) standards.
The Traverse Exchange network aims to provide a comprehensive view of a patient's health history by compiling and curating data from various sources.
MEDITECH interoperability development manager Jason Vogt said: “Traverse Exchange goes beyond simply exchanging data; it leverages next-level interoperability efforts to accelerate the transition from static documents to real-time FHIR-based data requests.
“By introducing a FHIR-first network, we’re unlocking a wide range of untapped use cases that have the potential to transform how care is delivered. This network will give us the unlimited capacity to innovate faster, opening up new options for patients and their providers to exchange information and make the best and safest decisions on their health.”
Traverse Exchange goes beyond the Core USCDI interoperability requirements, allowing for the exchange of additional health data not covered by standard documents.
In addition, the network connects Meditech customers to a private network and offers connectivity to public health agencies, other networks, and data-sharing networks, such as Commonwell, Carequality, and qualified health information networks (QHINs) through Health Gorilla QHIN.
The embedded record locator service within the network helps in locating nationwide patient information.
Traverse Exchange uses intelligent search capabilities to query all QHINs, ensuring the relevant patient data is incorporated into their health records.
Meditech plans to make available Traverse Exchange from the third quarter of 2024.
Meditech interoperability market and product strategy senior director Mike Cordeiro said: “Traverse Exchange removes one of the greatest barriers to interoperability by making it easier for physicians to leverage the most meaningful data from multiple organizations in one place to inform clinical decisions.
“Physicians will no longer need to sift through multiple large CCDs or data exports to obtain necessary information. By embedding interoperability directly within their native workflows, they can precisely access what they need when needed. It also lays the groundwork for more advanced data analysis as we look to additional AI and machine learning solutions.”
