Netsmart has introduced 'Bells Virtual Scribe', an artificial intelligence (AI) tool aimed at enhancing clinical documentation and reducing the administrative load on healthcare providers.

Built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Bells Virtual Scribe leverages augmented intelligence to simplify the documentation process within electronic health records (EHR).

Some of the key features of Bells Virtual Scribe include transcription, terminology, evidence mapping, and multi-participant support.

The ambient listening and near real-time transcription capabilities capture consumer conversations, aiming to significantly reduce the time healthcare professionals spend on documentation.

In addition, the integration of Bells Virtual Scribe into Netsmart telehealth facilitates note generation for virtual consultations, thus enhancing the virtual care experience.

Bells Virtual Scribe also complements the existing Bells AI skill set, which uses natural language processing to interpret content, correct spelling and grammar, and assist with logistics based on documented details.

Netsmart's Bells AI also enables organisations to audit notes, ensuring essential elements are captured and patient progress is summarised over time.

Netsmart Innovations senior vice-president Matthew Arnheiter said: “Bells Virtual Scribe exemplifies our commitment by streamlining the documentation process, capturing real-time interactions, and reducing administrative burdens through advanced generative AI and ambient listening.

“This approach allows clinicians to concentrate on delivering high-quality care, supporting them rather than replacing them.”

The upcoming advancements for Bells AI include advanced note summarisation and concept extraction, which will aid clinicians in quickly accessing critical patient information and addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) at the point of care.

Predictive models within Bells AI support clinical decision-making by providing proactive individual assessments, enhancing treatment strategies with insights from large datasets.

In addition, the launch of Bells Virtual Scribe marks a significant step in expanding Netsmart's portfolio of machine learning, AI, and robotic process automation solutions.

The company's developments also include AlphaCollector, a collections management automation solution featuring Benny, a digital collections assistant, as well as Otto, a virtual support assistant, which streamlines the billing and collection process.

It also facilitates information sharing for support case resolution.

Netsmart chief operating officer Tom Herzog Netsmart said: “The work we’re doing with AWS and the AI Data Lab serves as a catalyst for transforming ideas into reality by enabling candid discussions on the possibilities within digitised ecosystems.

“Its focus on meaningful implementation helps technology to transcend hype, providing tangible value across clinical, operational, and financial sectors.”
