New Beeliar Medicare UCC launches in Western Australia

The clinic aims to provide accessible urgent care by qualified medical professionals, easing the burden on local hospitals.

November 15 2023

The Australian Government has opened the Beeliar Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) at the Lagoon Medical Centre in Western Australia to enhance public health services in the region.

The clinic aims to provide accessible urgent care by qualified medical professionals, easing the burden on local hospitals.

With extended hours seven days a week, the clinic offers walk-in care with fully bulk-billed services.

This initiative addresses the need for urgent treatment outside traditional hours, reducing non-urgent presentations at hospitals.

The Beeliar Medicare UCC is the latest addition to three already operational clinics in Perth City, Rockingham, and Clarkson, with two more set to open in Bunbury, Midland, and Broome before the end of the year.

The Australian Government collaborates with local health authorities to ensure the timely establishment of these Medicare UCCs across Western Australia.

Minister Mark Butler said: “The Beeliar Medicare UCC is going to make a big difference to patients across the greater Perth area.

“Locals will be able to walk in, see a doctor or nurse and access imaging and pathology services.

“This clinic will ease pressure on the Fiona Stanley Hospital, allowing them to concentrate on higher priority emergencies.

“The Albanese Government is committed to strengthening Medicare and making it easier and cheaper to get quality healthcare, by tripling the bulk billing incentive and making medicines cheaper.”

Member for Fremantle Josh Wilson said: “The Beeliar Medicare UCC will mean people in our community who need urgent but not acute care, can get it quickly even if it’s outside standard hours – and all they’ll need is their Medicare card.

“I know many families who have waited for a considerable time at the Fiona Stanley emergency department for non-life-threatening issues.

“This Medicare UCC will ease pressure on local EDs and be much more convenient for our communities – closer to home, at short notice, and bulk billed under Medicare.”

The aging population is a captive market for medical devices

With rising pressure on governments, payers, and manufacturers to reduce healthcare costs, innovative medical technologies have tremendous potential to improve elder care. Advancements in medical device technology have resulted in a significant increase in the number of conditions that can be managed in a home care setting. To capitalize on this strong demand and growth, manufacturers are increasingly producing consumer-targeted equipment.
