The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi in the Indian state of Jharkhand is planning to build a new critical care unit, reported The Times of India.

It is also set to open a new neurosurgery ward with 50 beds.

At present, the hospital has a 45-bed critical care unit (CCU), and the new one will expand its capacity to 95 beds, connected to the trauma centre.

Rims director Dr R K Gupta was quoted by the publication as saying: “The construction of the new ward is being done by the building construction department and is set to be complete by January.

“The ward is nearly ready. Beds and equipment are yet to be installed. Advanced machines, including new ventilators, have been ordered.

“Once they arrive, the installation process will commence within seven days.

“The entire ward will be equipped with cutting-edge medical technology.”

The hospital is also renovating its old emergency unit, turning it into an extension of the neurosurgery ward with a 10-bed high dependency unit.

Meanwhile, at the city of Ranchi, Azim Premji University is planning to establish a new hospital and a medical college.

The news was reported in September 2023 by The Hindu Business Line, citing Azim Premji.

In another recent development in India, Max Healthcare reached an agreement to acquire the 550-bed Sahara Hospital in Lucknow, a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Sahara Hospital serves 200,000 patients annually, providing them a range of services including gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, as well as pulmonology.
