The Mayor's Office of Bogotá and the District Health Secretariat have opened new healthcare facilities at the El Tintal Pediatric Hospital in the Kennedy district, Colombia.

These facilities include eight intensive care units (ICU), four operating rooms, and a sterilisation facility.

Thought this hospital section had been completed in 2016, it could not be used due to infrastructure problems.

Bogotá mayor Claudia López said: “We are pleased to inform all of Bogotá and Kennedy in particular, that we have completed all paediatric care services, surgery rooms and intensive care rooms, and we put them at the service of our boys and girls throughout Bogotá.”

The new services being offered include intensive care, general surgery, and orthopaedic surgery, in addition to the hospital's existing services for children and adolescents.

This initiative is said to be part of the Ministry of Health and the South West Subnetwork efforts to expand health facilities in various areas of the city.

The El Tintal Pediatric Hospital is the first public hospital in the city to be accredited by Icontec for its quality in the provision of health services.

The hospital has a team of 270 professionals, technicians, and subcontracted services to care for young residents of the city.

Secretary of health Alejandro Gómez said: “This is a work that we had as a commitment to the city's children, who had to wait almost eight years to see it become a reality.

“With it, public hospitals are at the level and quality of private ones.

“We will continue working so that all residents of the city have access to quality and affordable medical care.”
