The Australian Government is set to open the Marion Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) at the Marion Domain Mental and Dental Centre in South Australia on 6 November 2023.

This clinic is said to be the part of the government's commitment to provide easier access to urgent medical treatment for South Australians. The goal is to reduce the burden on local hospitals.

The Medicare UCC will operate seven days a week, with extended hours, and offer bulk-billed walk-in care.

This initiative aims to address the high number of non-urgent or semi-urgent cases seen at hospitals, particularly at the Flinders Medical Centre.

The Marion clinic is the second of five such clinics planned, with the Elizabeth Medicare UCC having opened on 23 October.

The remaining three clinics are expected to open by the end of the year, as the government collaborates with Primary Health Networks and the South Australian Government to deliver these services.

Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler said: “The Marion Medicare UCC is going to make a big difference to patients across the southern suburbs.

 “The Marion Medicare UCC will mean patients who need urgent but not acute care, can get it quickly, even if it’s outside standard hours, and all they’ll need is their Medicare card.

 “The Albanese Government is committed to strengthening Medicare and making it easier and cheaper to get quality healthcare by tripling the bulk billing incentive and making medicines cheaper.”
