Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is set to open its Northway Wellness Centre, which will house the Residential Withdrawal and Safe Beds programme.

This initiative provides short-term care for patients aged 16 and above experiencing intoxication, substance withdrawal, or seeking help with relapse prevention.

The Safe Beds programme offers in-house treatment for up to 30 days to stabilise individuals with mental health and addiction needs in a community/home-like setting.

According to the hospital website, the facility’s construction was funded by Algoma Steel and Clark McDaniel of Williams & McDaniel Property Management.

The facility claims to enhance mental health and addiction care access for the community.

A guided tour of the centre is open to the public on the 21st of this month.

SAH in Ontario has an annual budget of $225m and operates up to 300 beds, offering primary, secondary, and select tertiary healthcare services to residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma district.

The hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency and critical care, cardiac care, medicine, surgery, obstetrics, maternity, paediatrics, mental health, addictions, complex continuing care, and rehabilitation.

Additionally, SAH hosts regional programmes like the Algoma Regional Renal Program (ARRP), which provides comprehensive renal services, and the Algoma District Cancer Program (ADCP), which offers comprehensive cancer treatment services.
