NHS Highland has selected Morrison Construction to lead the work related to refurbishment at Grantown Health Centre in the UK.

The latest move comes after securing planning permission.

The proposed £2.6m ($2.86m) refurbishment is expected to begin next month to improve the access and infrastructure of the existing building.

It will accommodate units for physiotherapy, minor injuries, and locally-based outpatient clinics.

As part of a three-stage work plan, the Health Centre will initially be transferred to the Ian Charles Hospital early next month.

Construction work will begin on the existing building and will include a triage centre, new windows, and a new pitched roof creating additional rooms for training.

Furthermore, the energy system will be upgraded in accordance with ‘net zero’ legislation to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency.

Grantown Medical Practice executive manager Kathy Cockman said: “We are pleased to be moving forward with the proposed plans to refurbish Grantown Health Centre as part of the redesign of health and social care services in Badenoch and Strathspey.

“The addition of the extension will require the demolition of the central section of the existing building, which was added in the 1960s and connects the original Ian Charles Hospital to the health centre.

“During this period of construction, there will be some changes to the facility. What was the entrance to the health centre will become the entrance and exit. The current exit will be closed to allow site facilities and storage for Morrison Construction.”
