Healthcare management company Nutex Health has bought Population Health Associates (PHA) and Managed Care Insurance Consultants (MCIC), two independent practice associations (IPAs) based in Florida.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.

The acquisition expands Nutex's presence in Florida and adds around 112 primary care physicians (PCP) and 4,400 managed care patients to its platform.

This complements the company’s current managed care patient base of 25,000 and its existing South Florida PCP network, South Florida Physicians IPA (SFPIPA).

PHA and MCIC founder and CEO Victor Behar will now spearhead Nutex's Florida IPA operations.

Nutex Health chairman and CEO Tom Vo said: "We believe that our integrated healthcare delivery model of micro-hospitals surrounded by our own affiliated network of physicians, once operational, should translate into higher patient volumes for our hospitals while lowering the MCRs for our IPAs, making both the micro-hospitals and IPAs more profitable."

PHA and MCIC CEO Victor Behar said: "We are thrilled to become part of Nutex Health and believe that our network of providers will benefit from the support and cloud-based population health management platform provided by Clinigence."

Nutex includes hospital and population health management divisions, with the latter operating provider networks including IPAs. 

Its hospital division has 22 facilities across eight states.

Nutex’s cloud-based platform collects data from various sources, systems, and settings to create a comprehensive overview of both patients and providers.

The company plans to launch five or six micro-hospitals in Florida by 2025.
